All About Banksy: Exhibition 2 is back! Same place (Chiostro del Bramante, Rome), same artist, new exhibition!
We have already talked about the transgressive soul of the artist who never misses an opportunity to make people talk about him, but today we want to remind you that from May 5, 2021 to January 9, 2022 the second edition of All about Banksy will be held in Rome, at the Chiostro Bramante!
“Discover, approach, know, recognise Banksy. During our first exhibition, A Visual Protest (September 2020 – March 2021), given the impossibility of maintaining the opening, we worked to ensure that the public would not be disappointed, would not be left without Banksy. This gave rise to the idea of holding a second exhibition, again dedicated to Banksy and his work, and our wish was fulfilled thanks to the collaboration with Butterfly&David Chaumet- Butterfly Art News, the curators of the project”.
Natalia de Marco, direzione artistica DART
The collaboration was very important because for the first time, archives that had always been closed were made totally available to visitors.
I was really bad with the spray can, so I started cutting stencils, Banksy’s words indicate the technique he uses most. On display, thanks to stencils: prints on paper or canvas, together with a selection of unique works made using different techniques from oil or acrylic on canvas to spray on canvas, from stencils on metal or concrete to some sculptures made of painted polymer resin or painted bronze.
Imagine a city where graffiti was not illegal, a city where everyone could draw wherever they wanted. Where every street was flooded with myriad colours and short expressions. Where waiting up for the bus at the bus stop was never boring. A city that gives the impression of a party open to everyone, not just estate agents and business tycoons. Imagine such a city and get off the wall – the paint is fresh. It takes guts, and lots of them, to stand up as complete strangers in a Western democracy and call for things no one else believes in – like peace, justice and freedom
What is the exhibition about?
Among the various works on display, we find more than 20 designs for record covers, books, in a time span from 2001 to 2017. All the works come from private collections.
With this new exhibition project, DART – Chiostro del Bramante continues its commitment to telling the public about art through its protagonists.
The “walls” designed by Donato Bramante around 1500 host the ideas, signs and messages launched by the world’s most famous unknown artist on many walls in many cities. Only apparently a contradiction because the Chiostro has shown, in recent years, a great openness to the most diverse contemporary languages.
Themes
“They exist without anyone’s consent. They are hated, hunted and persecuted. They live in silent desperation amidst the filth. And yet they are able to bring entire civilisations to their knees. If you are dirty, insignificant and loveless, then rats will be your role model.
Among the themes he addresses most are consumerism, as in the following photos:
Other themes are war, wealth, globalisation.
So, it seems to us to be an exhibition not to be missed! And you? Have you already bought your ticket?
